OkosŐrszem: a watchdog for your backups

OkosŐrszem (Hungarian for “smart sentry”) monitors Cobian Reflector backups on client machines and alerts you by email or on your phone the moment a backup is missed or fails. Before you ever need to restore.

Illustration: this is what the mobile overview will look like.

What does OkosŐrszem do?

See the backups of all your clients and servers in one place, and only step in when something is actually wrong.

Instant alerts

Email and mobile push notifications when a backup did not start, finished with errors, or the backup engine stopped.

Many clients, many servers

A client → server → task overview in one interface, with role-based access: viewer, operator, admin.

Every task in detail

What is backed up, from where to where, when it last ran, when the next run is due, and how large the backup was.

Remote control (planned)

Start a backup or switch a task on and off from your phone, using predefined, logged commands.

How does it work?

  1. An agent on the machine

Install a small Windows service on the machine where Cobian Reflector runs. The agent is read-only.

  2. Secure reporting

The agent regularly sends the backup status over an outbound HTTPS connection. No inbound port or VPN needed.

  3. Alerts and overview

The platform evaluates the data and notifies you by email or on your phone. You see the status on the web and in the app.

Who is it for?

IT service providers and sysadmins

If you run backups on many client machines, you no longer have to log in to each one or read logs.

Small businesses

If you back up your own server or PC, you will know whether the backup really ran.

Security and privacy

  • Only metadata leaves the machine: task name, path, time, size, status. Never file contents.
  • Passwords stored in the backup program are never read or sent by the agent.
  • The agent only uses outbound HTTPS. No inbound port is opened.
  • Remote commands are predefined, signed and logged. There is no free-form shell.

Status

OkosŐrszem is under development. We will announce the exact launch date later.
